If you've purchased or downloaded a color palette for Procreate, follow these steps to easily import it into your app and start using it in your artwork:

Method 1: Importing Directly from Your iPad

  1. Download the .swatches File
After purchasing or downloading the color palette, ensure the .swatches file is saved to your iPad. You can download it from the web or transfer it via email, AirDrop, or cloud storage like Google Drive or Dropbox.

  2. Open the .swatches File
Locate the .swatches file on your iPad. Tap the file to open it, and your iPad will automatically prompt you to open it in Procreate.

  3. Procreate Will Automatically Import the Palette
When you tap the file, Procreate will open and import the palette directly into the app. You’ll see the new color palette in the “Palettes” section most likely at the bottom of list, ready for use.

Method 2: Importing from the Procreate App

  1. Open Procreate
Launch the Procreate app on your iPad.

  2. Go to the Color Menu
Tap the color circle in the top-right corner to open the color menu. This is where you can select and manage your color palettes.

  3. Tap on 'Palettes'
In the color menu, tap on the 'Palettes' tab at the bottom of the menu to view all of your saved palettes.

  4. Import the Palette
In the 'Palettes' tab, tap the '+' button at the top right corner, and choose 'Import' from the options. Navigate to the location where your .swatches file is stored, such as iCloud, Google Drive, or local storage. Select the file to import the color palette into Procreate.

Method 3: Using AirDrop (Mac Users)

  1. Locate the .swatches File on Your Mac
If you have the .swatches file on your Mac, ensure that both your Mac and iPad have AirDrop turned on.

  2. AirDrop the File to Your iPad
Right-click the .swatches file and select 'Share' > 'AirDrop.' Choose your iPad from the list of available devices.

  3. Accept the AirDrop on Your iPad
When prompted on your iPad, tap 'Accept.' The file will automatically open in Procreate and be imported to your Palettes section.

How to Use Your Imported Palette

  1. Access Your New Palette
Open Procreate and go to the Palettes tab in the color menu. You’ll see your imported color palette listed here.

  2. Set the Palette as Default (Optional)
If you want to use this palette as your default, tap the 'Set Default' button at the top of the palette. This will make it your primary palette for all color selections.

  3. Start Creating
You can now select colors from your new palette and use them in your artwork. Tap any color to apply it to your current brush or tool.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • File Format Issues
Ensure that the file you are trying to import has a .swatches extension, as Procreate only supports this file format for color palettes.

  • Cannot Find the Palette After Importing
If the palette isn’t showing up, try restarting the Procreate app and check the Palettes section again.

  • File Location
Make sure the .swatches file is saved in a location you can access on your iPad, like iCloud, Google Drive, or your Downloads folder.
